A statue of the Egyptian God Anubis is on display at Dallas - Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

Dallas - Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) -- December 2008 -- A 26 foot tall statue of the Egyptian god, Anubis, has been placed on display in Founders' Park, at DFW airport. The statue has been placed to celebrate the exhibit "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" which is on display at the Dallas Museum of Art until May 17, 2009. The statue itself is not ancient, but was recently constructed for the DFW airport display. During the holidays Anubis will be holding a candy cane. The statue is located at the North end of the airport, and can be seen from departing and arriving flights. If you are traveling by car, it is located near Highway 114 at Texan Trail. For those not familiar with Anubis, he is usually depicted with a human body and a jackal  head, and he is a god of the underworld. He is associated with the embalming and mummification process as well as protecting and guiding souls after death in the underworld. Others have pointed out the irony of having this particular god greeting arriving and departing planes at an airport, so if you are superstitious or religious, this might not be the time for a flight to or from DFW. Also, there are some who have found the placement and decorating of an Egyptian God in this manner offensive as well.
